Acción Latina presents: The 38th Annual Encuentro del Canto Popular, our yearly concert which serves as both fundraiser and celebration of the spirit of resistance within the music of Latin America. This year we celebrate the intersection between Black & Afro-Latinx musical traditions with a lineup featuring the neo-Latin soul of Louda y Los Bad Hombres, the ska-reggae influenced La Noche Oskura, and headlined by the groundbreaking, oldies-inspired hip-hop duo, Choosey & Exile.

DJ Exile, the world-renowned DJ/producer collaborates with up-and-coming Afro-Mexicano rapper Choosey on a full-length album blending the ethos of old-school Chicano souldies (soul + oldies)! Choosey & Exile’s 2019 release, “Black Beans,” is what Black and Brown fans of hip-hop, oldies, and lowrider culture have been waiting for. The Black Beans LP is destined to be a West Coast classic. Our community partners include: Arhoolie Foundation, Del Corazon Music, Evolved SF, & Horizon’s Unlimited’s The DJ Project. Funded by SFAC and Grants for the Arts.
